Woman's body found in Umkomaas River

Emergency services have retrieved the body of a woman from the Umkomaas River on the south coast.

Members of the public spotted the body floating in the river mouth this morning.
ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring says paramedics and lifeguards used a rescue boat to get to the body.
"After a short time - the woman's body was found approximately 250 metres away from the shore. Lifeguards and ER24 paramedics returned the body to the shore where she was found to have sustained a serious head injury and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing more could be done for her and she was declared dead on scene," he says.

The exact cause of the incident is not known while local authorities are on scene, investigating further.
It's thought the woman was in her thirties.
