Woman killed in Durban house fire

A woman has burned to death after her Verulam home caught alight in the early hours of Monday morning.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala says the woman was asleep in her room in the home on Charnwood Drive in Riyadh when it caught fire.
"The 53-year-old woman who was asleep, was burnt to death and the Verulam police are investigating an inquest docket and the circumstances surrounding the incident," she said.
Reaction Unit SA spokesperson, Prem Balram says the woman's burnt body was found under a pile of debris.
"Reaction officers made several attempts to gain entry into the building, however, they were unsuccessful."
"The eThekwini fire department arrived on scene a short while later and doused the flames, the body of a woman was found in a room and she was declared deceased by paramedics," he said.
