Woman injured in N2 shootout 'lucky to be alive'
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The family of a civilian who was injured in the N2 shootout says she thought she was going to die.
Fifty-four-year-old Debra Stephen was driving her car near Queen Nandi Drive when bullets were exchanged.
Police had been pursuing a gang of suspected robbers whom they had intercepted earlier at a nearby petrol station.
The shootout resulted in a crash, with Stephen's car being hit by an out-of-control car that landed in the carriageway she'd been travelling in.
Stephen was injured and also had to be extricated from the wreckage.
Her daughter-in-law, Jaydene Stephen says doctors have told them - Debra is lucky to be alive.
"She has a broken arm in three places, a fractured rib and collar bone and a fractured pelvis in three places," she says.
Jaydene says Debra cries every time she recalls the incident.
