Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A woman has been killed in a crash and resultant vehicle fire on the M4 freeway, north of Durban last night.
Emergency services say the motorist died at the scene.
Moments before the fire, the woman's vehicle crashed into a bridge pillar on the freeway between La Lucia and Umhlanga.
Netcare911's Shawn Herbst says this is the second such incident there in two days.
"Reports from the scene indicate that a driver of a light motor vehicle lost control, crashing into a bridge pillar. The eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services had doused the flames and on close inspection, the body of an unidentified person was found burnt beyond recognition in the driver's seat," Herbst said.
