Woman dies in Church Street crash after alleged robbery

A woman has died after being knocked down by a car while fleeing robbers in Pietermaritzburg.
The woman and two friends were reportedly hitchhiking when the men tried to rob them.
According to reports from the scene, the woman ran across the road during the altercation and was hit by a passing motorist on Church Street.

Netcare 911’s Nick Dollman says she suffered life-threatening injuries.
"The victim was a 24-year-old female. She sustained severe injuries and tragically died of the injuries at the scene," he said.
Last month, a man was killed on the N2 near the KwaMashu turn-off in Durban, apparently while running away from robbers.
Police are investigating further.
