Woman dies after plummeting through roof in Springfield Park

A woman has died after falling through a roof at China Mall in Springfield Park while apparently running away from protesters this morning.

Violent protests broke out in the area last night. Police have since arrested two suspects for public violence.

Rescue Care spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson says the two men were also running on the roof when they fell through.

"Unfortunately, paramedics arrived on scene to find a female believed to be approximately 45 has sustained major multiple injuries and there was nothing more they could do for her and she was declared deceased at the scene. 

"Two other men have sustained serious injuries and are currently being stabilised by Rescue Care paramedics before being transported for the further care that they will require," Garrith Jamieson said.

Spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says an inquest docket has been opened following the death of the China Mall employee. 

"Greenwood Park police will open a case of inquest after the body of a woman was found in one of the shops in the North Park area. It is not known at this stage as to what really happened. We understand that a woman fell from the roof and she died. We don't really know what happened," he said.
