Woman allegedly suffocates son in Umhlanga

Police are investigating a murder case in Umhlanga, north of Durban in which a mother allegedly suffocated her young son.
SAPS spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the 34-year-old allegedly suffocated her child before trying to take her own life at a guest house this week.

"The mother allegedly suffocated the boy. She also gave him some medication, overdosing him. The mother then allegedly tried to commit suicide by trying to cut her wrists with a razor blade. She was taken to hospital under police guard," he said.
Concerned residents said they were shocked to see police cars and forensics officers in the area.

The woman appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court this morning. The matter has been remanded for seven days.
