Wits students stand behind those arrested

A group, thought to be students, is currently protesting at the intersection of Rockridge and Oxford roads in Johannesburg.

Students have gathered at the Trinity Church in Braamfontein in support of other protesters and students who have been arrested over the weekend and are appearing in court in Johannesburg.
One of the student leaders, Mcebo Dlamini was arrested for allegedly inciting public violence. He has been at the forefront of the Fees Must Fall movement since last year.

Police spokesperson Sally de Beer said those arrested will appear in courts in Johannesburg in connection with the violent protest in Braamfontein on Friday evening.
Nine people were arrested in Braamfontein while one person was arrested at Wits University.
