Wine industry warns more business closures if alcohol ban continues
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
With many wine businesses already closed, an industry body has warned a continued ban on the sale of alcohol will be catastrophic.
Vinpro says one of the oldest agricultural industries in the country is at risk of not surviving - if there aren't any urgent interventions.
The NGO represents 2 500 South African wine producers.
Vinpro's Maryna Calow says they are desperate for government to lift the ban.

She says the industry has lost billions in profit and will be forced to completely shut down should the ban continue.
"There will be potential job losses in the tens of thousands for our industry.
"The bottling industries are impacted, packaging, labelling, all of these industries are heavily dependent on what we do in the industry and they are all feeling the pressure.
"If it were to continue to remain in place, the sad reality will be that a number of our producers will have to close their doors for business," says Calow.
