Why was Gordhan initially charged? Analyst weighs in

A political analyst feels the decision to withdraw fraud charges against Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan and two former senior SARS officials now brings the motivation behind the initial charges into the spotlight.
Sanusha Naidoo says yesterday's press briefing by NPA boss Shaun Abrahams suggests that the case against Gordhan was weak. She's described developments as bizarre, saying they raise more underlying questions.

"To what extent are we going to continue to see these kinds of acts play themselves out in our political landscape. Where does accountability lie and who is going to be held accountable for the kinds of decision-making that is taking place.
"The whole question around how institutions are being managed needs to be raised," she said.
