Why children should be raised in a supportive home environment
Updated | By Zongile Nhlapo
A social worker says the country cannot allow for nearly 10% of teenage deaths to be caused by suicide.

Marianna Deyzel who works with teenagers at an adolescent facility has been speaking as the country marks Teenage Suicide Week.
Deyzel says parents as caregivers are responsible for noticing the signs that could suggest a teenager is battling emotionally.
She says these include deteriorating school work, negative comments about life and extreme mood swings.
Deyzel says creating a healthy environment that's conducive for raising children is important.
"Children growing up in a home where alcohol freely flows are called the walking wounded. They don't trust, talk or feel. These negative suppressed emotions may leads to suicide," she said.
