Well-known energy expert Ted Blom loses battle with cancer

Blom’s family announced news of his passing on Wednesday.

He was previously diagnosed with cancer.  

Blom was a familiar name in South African households, as he became the go-to expert on the country’s crippling energy crisis.

In a statement, the family describes Blom as a man of honour, dignity, and strong principles, who dedicated his life to the fight against corruption in South Africa.

Blom is survived by his wife and children.

“He was a great father filled with love for his wife and children, always providing and protecting. He always persevered through challenges, fighting cancer for a number of years,” read the statement.

A memorial service will be held in his honour in Johannesburg on 13 May.

“We look forward to the celebration of our father's life with those who loved and respected him.”

South Africans from all walks of life, including media and civil society organisations, have paid tribute to Blom.
