Weather warning issued for severe thunderstorms in KZN

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for possible severe thunderstorms over parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday.

The service says Zululand, uMkhanyakude, Amajuba and King Cetshwayo districts are expected to be hit with lightning strikes, hail and strong winds coupled with heavy rains.
"Yellow warning for thunderstorms with possible impacts including flooding of low lying bridges and settlements as well as damage to infrastructure due to possible strong winds and hail and injuries to people and livestock due to lightning over northern KZN from this afternoon," SAWS said.
Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila says all disaster management teams on standby.
"KZN MEC for Cogta, Sipho Hlomuka has urged residents in the affected Districts to take the necessary safety steps when the anticipated changes in the weather conditions take place."
