The South African Weather Office has issued the alert saying the province should brace for chilly conditions from as early as Thursday afternoon.
"Durban can expect a maximum of around 18 degrees on Friday and Saturday," says forecaster Stacy Colborne.
"The minimum temperatures will probably drop lower in places like Mooi River and Underberg. Giant Castle may even reach negative figures on Friday and Saturday."
Colborne says they're expecting rough seas.
"We are expecting strong south-westerly winds which should come through thin the afternoon. When that comes through it should result in some very rough seas on Thursday afternoon into Friday with wave heights reaching between four and five metres."
