A band of showers and thundershowers are predicted to develop over the majority of the country according to the South African Weather Services.

Parts of KwaZulu-Natal may also experience wind damage due to severe thunderstorms.

SAWS adds that tropically-source moist air, moving southward through Botswana and into the central provinces of South Africa today, will promote scattered showers and thundershowers over the North-West, the Free State, the Eastern Cape and Gauteng as well as parts of adjoining provinces.

This might lead to localised flooding which can impact on road structure, low-water bridges, farmlands and informal settlements.

A Yellow level one alert for severe storms has been issued for the western parts of the North-West province, Northern Cape and parts of Free State.

Tomorrow, the cut-off low is expected to weaken but thunderstorms can be expected over the parts of Free State, North-West and Gauteng as it moves East.

However, conditions are expected to clear up from the West during Thursday, with Western and Northern Cape areas drying out and becoming sunnier, as well as in  North West and Free State.

The weekend is predicted to be rain-free across South Africa but the south-western coast of Western Cape can expect showers and near-gale force winds on Friday.

SAWS says this is in response to a well-developed cold front which will be approaching South Africa from the west.

Some showers may linger in the early morning hours of Friday over Gauteng and the eastern areas of the North-West and Free State. Storms are, however, expected to persist over the eastern provinces during much of Friday.
