Following recommendations from former Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela's report into state capture, Solidarity's Juran Van Den However feels an acting president should be appointed pending the sitting of the commission and the work it needs to do.

"The normal procedure in a labour context, in circumstances such as this, would be to suspend an employee pending the finalisation of an investigation. The purpose of such a suspension would be to prevent an employee from interfering in an investigation," he said.

Among those implicated in Madonsela's report is Co-operative Governance Minister, Des Van Rooyen - who is said to have visited the Gupta home seven times in as many days before Zuma fired former Finance Minister, Nhlanhla Nene and replaced him with Van Rooyen.

The report also revealed that between August and November last year, Eskom CEO Brian Molefe was placed in Saxonwold 19 times.

Last week, Molefe broke down after facing tough questions over his relationship with the Gupta family during a press briefing -  accusing Madonsela of never giving him the opportunity to provide answers.
