WC coldfront to have slight impact on KZN

Weather experts say it's the storm that's currently wreaking havoc in the Western Cape could have a slight impact on KZN.

The SA Weather Service's Julius Mahlangu says at the most, KZN can expect temperatures in the low to mid 20s and stronger than usual winds for the rest of the week.

"We're expecting some winds to pick up along the coast tomorrow, we also have a watch for heavy swells. That's the only thing that will affect us in terms of this cold front now affecting the Western Cape," he said.

In the Western Cape - at least two people were injured when the roof of their home was blown off, while trees have been uprooted in Durbanville, Delft, Plattekloof and Plumstead.  

But the Western Cape government's James-Brent Styan says there have not been any fatalities reported yet.

"The bad news is - we haven't seen the worst of it yet. We're expecting serious action around the coastal areas when the big waves start coming in this afternoon," he said.

This Western Cape resident says most people seem to have heeded the call by authorities to rather stay at home. 

"A lot of public institutions have been closed which is not a bad idea. We are used to getting storms here in the Cape. In these circumstances, it's better to be safe than to be sorry," he said.
