The N3 Toll Concession says it expects this morning to be one of the busiest travel days on the route this year. Thousands of vehicles have been entering the province with the festive season kicking-off proper today.

The Day of Reconciliation public holiday will be celebrated on Sunday - giving people a long weekend before the Christmas period. The concession's Con Roux says all roadworks have been lifted from the busy route between Heidelberg and Cedara over the peak period.

"We have what we call 'A Days' and during these days - which are peak traffic days - we lift all roadworks", he said.

"In fact for the entire duration of the festive season all roadworks along the N3 have been lifted until the 8th of January", Roux said.

Roux is urging all motorists to play their part in ensuring they keep their passengers and other road-users safe on the roads.
