Water supply to Kharwastan community cut due to storm

The community of Kharwastan in the Chatsworth area, south of Durban has been marooned by the heavy rains.

The main bridge into and out of the the area collapsed yesterday morning in the downpours.
Residents say its unsafe for them to even be near the bridge, as flowing waters have created a wider stream beneath.
Locals have no access to food or emergency assistance, while some locals cannot get to work or school.
Kharwastan resident, Shirley Pillay says they have been without water since the heavy rains.
"Thankfully, we are so grateful to God, that we have electricity. Otherwise, for the toilets - that's another issue. We tried to get some rain water but that is now running. Maybe, someone can airlift water - we can't go out of this area to purchase anything."
