Water shut down, affecting areas supplied by Midmar Dam, kicks in today
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A 30-hour water shutdown is scheduled to kick-in parts of eThekwini, Umsunduzi and Umgungundlovu this morning.
Umgeni Water says the shutdown will allow technicians to carry out urgent work at the Midmar Dam raw water pump station.
Therefore, water supply from the Midmar Dam to the Midmar Water Works and DV Harris Water Treatment Plant will be closed.
It's expected to last until about 2pm tomorrow afternoon. The procedure was pushed forward from 8-9 September following a request for a postponement from the Msunduzi Local Municipality.
The utility's Shami Harichunder says not all residents will go without water for the entire shutdown period.
"In so far as distribution of water to retail consumers - you are going to have to talk to municipalities as Umgeni Water does not do retail water sales. It supplies water in bulk to municipalities. So at that stage that is where we are in relation to the shut-down and the plans for it,"he said.
