Water restrictions lifted for some communities in eThekwini and iLembe
Updated | By Lucky Khanyile
It's welcome news for some residents of eThekwini and iLembe municipalities as authorities have decided to lift water restrictions in areas that are supplied by the Hazelmere Dam.
The restrictions had affected areas including La Mercy, Verulam, Waterloo, Tongaat, Ballito and Ndwendwe among others.
Umgeni Water's Shami Harichunder has thanked residents for their patience and cooperation during the restrictions.
Harichunder says they will be informed should there be but for now, the water restrictions are on hold.
"This decision was taken after there was some good rainfall amounting to about 180ml which was recorded at Hazelmere Dam. The level of the dam has now increased to about 62%, and a decision was taken by the Joint Operations Committee that there was no longer an immediate
need for restrictions."
Harichunder says restrictions will, however, continue in the central and southern parts of eThekwini - as well as in uMgungundlovu since the level of Midmar Dam remains at 46%.
