Water pump station shutdown affects supply from Hibberdene to Port Edward

Water supply in areas from Hibberdene to Port Edward has been affected due to the St Helen's Rock pump station being shut.

The Ugu District Municipality says the salinility levels in the uMzimkhulu River have reached their highest point.
Spokesperson - France Zama says high sea tides have been pushing water up to the abstraction point.

"We are unable to extract any more water into our system, due to previous experiences that we have had so as a result up until such times the seatides have dropped, we are currently experiencing this huge challenge."
He says tankers will be distributing potable water to areas that are seriously affected.
