Water in north of Durban to be restored on Sunday: eThekwini
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
eThekwini has assured residents in Durban's northern parts that their water supply will be fully restored on Sunday.
Issues cropped up at Umgeni Water Reservoir 3 after a 24-hour maintenance shutdown at the Durban Heights Water Treatment Plant last week.
Several areas, including uMhlanga, Sunningdale and Durban North, were hit with disruptions to their supply.
The city's Gugu Sisilana says it took some time for the reservoir to bounce back after maintenance.
"The shutdown was necessary to allow for the completion of repair work on Aquaduct-2, which was washed away during the flood disasters in April 2022.
"However, after the shutdown, the storage at Umgeni-uThukela Water was depleted. Reservoir 3, that supplies the north region, was the most affected, resulting in lower levels to the city’s reservoirs.
“We wish to again reassure all customers and stakeholders that ultimately, the ongoing infrastructure maintenance upgrades will result in a more secure supply of water in the future."
