Watches stolen worth at least R1-million: Durban shop owner
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A La Lucia Mall shop owner is counting the costs after armed robbers walked into his store and stole watches worth more than an estimated R1-million in total.
Bryan Maeler, the owner and director of Watches Unlimited at the mall, north of Durban says the robbers entered his store yesterday and threatened his staff.
He’s told Newswatch the suspects forced the three staff members to the back of the store, telling them to lie on the floor.
Maeler says the robbers smashed a display window and fled with about 50 watches.
"Thank God nobody was hurt. That's the most important thing. We were very protected. Everybody was fine. The stock can be replaced but people can't be replaced. We're very grateful that nobody was hurt," he said.
Management at La Lucia Mall says they’re doing everything they can to assist police with their investigation and crack down on crime.
