Engineers have been working to repair a sinkhole there.

The department temporarily closed the route on the eastbound side of the King Cetshwayo Highway on Friday.

Assessments found that the recent wet weather was partly to blame.

The M13's a key route that connects Westville, Hillcrest, Gillitts, Kloof and Pinetown to Durban.

The department's Kwanele Ncalane's urged motorists to make use of other roads in the meantime.

"Our hope is that the problem will be fixed as we have just begun the week. However, due to unpredicted weather, we might delay our target.

"However, we will continue to work on-site monitoring the team and ensuring that we are able before the end of this week to fix the problem."
