WATCH: Steenhuisen addresses degree row in Parliament
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The DA's John Steenhuisen has hit back at the EFF, saying the Constitution doesn't stipulate that a university degree is required to qualify as a member of the National Assembly.
Steenhuisen has been amongst Twitter trends this week - after it emerged that the opposition party Chief Whip's highest qualification was a National Senior Certificate.
But it's the EFF's Julius Malema, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and Floyd Shivambu who lead criticism on social media following the news.
But @jsteenhuisen EFF leaders are children of Mine & domestic workers. In fact, I was a garden workers during my high school days. We have women like Mama Sonti from Mineworker’s communities

But you know what? Even mine & domestic workers wish their children to Go To School! https://t.co/PtfAsc0rPo
Steenhuisen tabled a reply in Parliament - saying he's never pretended to have a degree and is not ashamed of this.
"I knew from an early age that I wanted to be a public representative and I wanted to work in politics to make a difference in the lives of ordinary South Africans," he says.
