WATCH: Scores flock to Margate beach for sardine frenzy
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
There was a sardine frenzy at a windy Margate beach on Friday.
"There's a big very big crowd here on the beach. The whole of Margate is here," says fisherman Goolum Essac.
Essack is among the scores of people who've gone there to net the silvery fish.
"A lot of fish have been caught. There has been about 400 to 500 crates, one net. Some carry about 20 to 30 crates."

Greg Thompson from the KZN Sharks Board says four nets have been taken on the south coast beach.
He says it could've been more if the sea conditions were better.
"It seems like the cold spell has done the job. We flew on Tuesday, and we saw quite a lot of pockets of sardines between Waterfall Bluff and Port Saint Johns.
"This is likely the fish we saw on Tuesday and we all really relived that it's come through."
He's warned against swimming as shark gear has been removed and beaches have been closed by lifeguards.
