WATCH: Rain, poor turnout doesn't stop Durban student march
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
There's been a dismal turnout at a Durban march by students.
The march had been organised to call for the release of the students who remain in custody after being arrested during fees protests at university campuses across the country.
Less than 50 students gathered outside Curries Fountain in the Durban CBD, while former Cosatu general secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi - who was expected to address the march - was a no show.
DUT Fees Must Fall activist, Gazuzu Nduli, has told the small the small crowd their march through the Durban CBD must continue.
"We can remember that the Cuban revolution, led by Fidel Castro, was led by 35 men - that were able to overthrow Batista and the whole government of Cuba, in bringing regime change. It was able to put a socialist government - a revolution that started all that with 35 men. Castro even said if he had to do it again today, he would do it with 15 men with complete faith," he said.

Students have now started marching to the Durban City Hall. They have been blocking intersections in the CBD on their way to the building, which has caused major disruptions to traffic in the city centre.
