Ballot counting continued in various districts across the country on Thursday.

Some projections by experts suggest the ANC could lose its 30-year-old unchallenged majority at a national level.

In a significant turn of events, former president Jacob Zuma's MK party is leading with 43% of the vote in KZN after some 11% of the votes were counted.

"We are watching the results, and let us see the outcome. We want a majority outcome,” Mantashe said at the IEC’s national results centre in Midrand.

“Coalitions are a consequence, and you don't plan for consequences."

Cope leader Mosiuoa Lekota says while it’s still early in the counting process his party's performance so far has him worried.

Lekota is among political leaders keeping a close eye on the results board at the IEC results operation centre.
