[WATCH] KZN doctor gets the jab done, first in province to be vaccinated

The first front line staffer in the province has been inoculated.

Provincial Premier, Sihle Zikalala and Health MEC, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu officially launched the vaccine roll-out programme at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in Umlazi.

The specialist physician, Nerika Maharaj received the Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 jab at the Prince Mshiyeni Hospital.

 The room was filled with doctors, journalists and nurses all looking on to witness this moment and once the vaccine was administered, there were cheers and jubilation in the room.

 After receiving the jab, Maharaj looked up and breathed a huge sigh of relief. She told reporters that she is hopeful now.

Maharaj says she has seen so much heartbreak this year and she finally feels like it’s almost over.

She also says she would encourage everyone to vaccinate saying it’s time to achieve herd immunity.

Other nurses and doctors gathered around her. One of the doctors told us that 200 doses had arrived that morning at the hospital. 

Vaccinations are underway.
