Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Leaders of the KwaSizabantu Mission have walked out of the Durban hearings into alleged abuses and misconduct by the KZN-based church.
This was after the chairperson of the religious and cultural rights commission conducting the probe refused to recuse himself.
The mission's lawyer, Advocate, Keith Mathee has accused Luka Mosoma of being biased against the church - based on an interview he did with an online publication.
He quoted a line from the article to make his point.
Listen below:
Mosoma says his statements were made as a summary of testimonies he'd heard and have been taken out of context by the mission.
"Abusing people cannot be region indeed, so it cannot be discounted that the beating and raping of women are not part of religion and I was trying to examine how KwaSizabantu as an example but you say I am making a judgment, I said KwaSizabantu cannot exist as a religion to abuse people and to hate women."
Leadership and the legal team of the #kwasizabantu mission have walked out of the hearing saying that they will think of the way forward, now that Mosoma refused to recuse himself @ECR_Newswatch pic.twitter.com/Pga8PuBTIB
