WATCH: Journalist arrested at UKZN Westville

A News24 journalist has been arrested at UKZN's Westville campus.

Kaveel Singh was taken into custody at the Westville police station apparently for trespassing while covering protests on the campus earlier this afternoon. 


It is reported that the reporter was capturing a video - when his cellphone was confiscated by police. A scuffle then allegedly ensued.

Tweeting on his personal account, Singh said - "I've been detained by police with a student and am being taken to a police station." and "About to be processed at Westville SAPS."


According to News24, he is facing charges related to trespassing and resisting arrest.


Six other students were also arrested and are being held for contravening a court order obtained by the university. 


UPDATE: Singh has been released from the Westville Police holding cells.
