Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A team from eThekwini Municipality is currently removing the carcass of a juvenile humpback whale at Glenashley beach in Durban North.
The mammal is in an advanced stage of decomposition.
Newswatch was at the Glenashley Beach, where a juvenile humpback whale washed up.
Official told us that it is understood at this stage the the whale washed up onto the beach on Tuesday night.
The cause of death is still unknown, but from what they could see it appears that the whale had been dead for about a week.
Officials used a chainsaw to dismember the whale and an excavator TLB was used to remove parts of the whale.
It is unknown at this stage where the whale will be taken to.
Officials told us earlier that there were no visible markings on the whale.
Bathing along the beach from Eastmoor Crescent to Beachwood is banned at the moment over concerns of possible shark activity following the washing up of the whale.
