WATCH: Gauteng hotel guest shot point blank by police
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Independent Police Investigating Directorate (IPID) is investigating an incident where a man was shot by police at Misty Hills Hotel in Johannesburg over the weekend.
It is understood that the man was involved in an argument with hotel staff. The manager subsequently asked him to leave the hotel, but he refused and fetched a firearm.
Police were called in to help and disarm the guest, but he resisted and threatened to shoot.
In a video shared on social media, the half-naked guest can be seen shouting and swearing at police before being shot point-blank in the head by one of the officers.
“Police tried to take him out, but he refused. The police tried to disarm him, but he fought back and he disarmed a police officer that’s when the police decided to shoot him,” said IPID spokesperson Grace Langa.
“The wife of the victim who was at the hotel, staff and video footage will form part of the investigation. The victim is alive and is in a coma in hospital, we hope he recovers.”
No arrests have been made.
