The eThekwini Municipality has arranged temporary shelter for more than 200 people who were displaced on Tuesday, after a raging fire gutted 150 informal houses in Kenville, north of Durban.
One resident was left injured while trying to put out the blaze.
He was stabilised by emergency services on the scene and rushed to a hospital.
eThekwini spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela says disaster management teams were dispatched to offer relief.
"We managed to attend to the fire, and the situation is under control, and currently relief aid is being provided to those who have been affected."
"We are appealing to the members of the community to ensure that they are careful when it comes to dealing with fires, they must not leave fires unattended. We are trying our level best that we provide much-needed help to all the affected," he said.
Multiple dwellings have been destroyed in a fire at Kenville informal settlement (cnr Seacowlake & Gumtree) in Durban.
