WATCH: Emergency services battle Glenwood flat fire

Firefighters are battling a flat fire in Durban's Glenwood area this afternoon. Emergency services were called to the scene in Crart Avenue, off Che Guevara Road (formerly Moore Road) a short while ago.

Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says medics raced to the building and found eThekwini firefighters already battling the blaze.

Jamieson says the flat was fully engulfed by flames.

"Fortunately no injuries were sustained. Medics are on scene to attend to any injuries should the need arise," he said.

Local SAPS officers are also at the property.

It is unclear what caused the fire.


Meanwhile, dozens of homes have been destroyed in a fire in an informal settlement in Mayville, also in Durban.

KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services says no one was hurt in that fire.

Spokesperson Robert Mckenzie says the fire has been doused and medics have left the scene.

The fire tore through about 50 shacks.
