WATCH: A close-up with mayoral candidate, Hannif Hoosen
The DA's eThekwini mayoral candidate, Hannif Hoosen says although he's the party's Shadow Minister for Home Affairs - he wants to focus more on the lead up to the local government elections.
Hoosen says he needs to give his all to the public. The party announced he'll run for mayor on Sunday.
" I walked away feeling a sense of wowness - if there's such a word. People are praying for change. To see the excitement and passion of the people on their faces, I'm just happy we are able to give them a sense of hope that things can improve if we work together." he said.
He says should he become Mayor of eThekwini he plans to hit the ground running to improve service delivery in the city and make it safe.
"People don't feel safe walking in the streets any longer and we need to turn that around. That's something that I would like to change within the first few days of taking up office that we will start working immediately to try and change the lives of our people for the better.
"We have to make this government work for its people and not the other way around," he said.
