eThekwini Municipality says it's got teams on the ground to establish what exactly is being discharged into the sea through one of the stormwater pipes at Umhlanga Beach.

A video has surfaced on Tuesday afternoon showing blackened water gushing out below one of the piers.
It's prompted concern it might be sewerage.
Municipal workers from the city's water and sanitation unit were on the scene on Tuesday.

"I have seen the video, but I don't think there is anything that is out of the ambit of our by-laws, even though I will still have to investigate," says eThekwini spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela.
"I know very well that currently, we are having challenges with contamination in our beaches.
"So as a result, under no circumstances shall we deliberately discharge poisonous stuff into our water."
