Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Parts of northern KwaZulu-Natal are on alert on Monday after the weather office issued a warning for severe thunderstorms.
"The municipalities that will be affected are uThukela, Amajuba, uMzinyathi, Zululand, King Cetshwayo and Umkhanyakude," says SA Weather Service's Julius Mahlangu.
Mahlangu says near-gale force winds are expected with speeds of around 55 km per hour.
The forecaster says residents are being urged to look after their homes.
"The impacts that are expected with this thunderstorm are some heavy downpours that might lead to localised flooding.
"There is also some strong winds that is associated with the thunderstorm that might result to damage to infrastructure, both formal and informal.'
He says they're also expecting strong coastal winds this afternoon along the KZN south coast - that could cause property damage.
