Updated | By Christopher Motabogi
The Durban Metro Police officer who was shot during a robbery at his Seaview home last night is recovering well.
Metro Police's Wiseman Mchunu says the incident occurred during an attempted robbery at Constable Michael Hill's home.
Mchunu says several suspects entered the house and a shooting ensured during which the Dog Unit officer was shot.
Mchunu says the injured officer fired back at the suspects who fled the scene.
"We're urging the public to be more vigilant, house robberies are on the rise, hijackings are on the rise. We are urging the community to be vigilant and the neighbours to always assist in calling the police if they see anything suspicious," he said.
Several robberies and break-ins have been reported in the Seaglen area in Seaview, south of Durban. In one incident, a driver was hijacked outside the Seaview Primary School.
