Warning to online job-seekers

The KZN police's Nqobile Gwala says they are warning job seekers to be cautious when looking for work online.

"Citizens must be vigilant when they see jobs advertised on social media. Those who are also aware of job scams must report these to the police", she said.
The comes after a 25-year-old woman was kidnapped in Marrianridge on Saturday after she had responded to a job advert on social media. Her kidnappers demanded a R20 000 ransom from her family.
A close friend of the victim says the family could on manage to pay a portion of the money.
"Police say they could see she had been through a lot of trauma, but they allowed me to talk to her", she said.
"The kidnappers had called us demanding R20 000 for her release. We were only able to send them R2 000 but they later demanded R3 000 and told us to send it via e-wallet", the friend said.
