Warning of disruptive snowfall over KZN on Saturday

With a cold front on the way, KwaZulu-Natal authorities are asking residents to exercise caution.

Rain is forecast on Saturday, coupled with low temperatures.


The South African Weather Service says it's also expected to snow in some areas.

It's warned of disruptive snowfalls over the south-western parts of the province. 

KZN Cooperative Governance spokesperson Senzo Mzila says disaster management teams are on stand-by. 


"KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Sipho Hlomuka has placed his department's disaster management teams on alert following the weather warning issued by the South African Weather Service, which indicated an increased risk of disruptive snowfall in areas in the Harry Gwala, uMgungundlovu and uThukela districts.

"MEC Hlomuka has urged residents to exercise extreme caution by monitoring weather conditions prior to making any journey.


"The MEC has also called upon residents who utilise generators and braziers in their effects to keep warm to ensure that all safety precautions are followed.


"Disaster management teams will continue to monitor routes that are prone to incidents."

eThekwini Municipality says the city's beaches will be closed this weekend due to the expected rain.


It says swimming, surfing, fishing, canoeing, and other related activities won't be allowed.
