Warning against misuse of water in Umgungundlovu

The Umgungundlovu District Municipality is warning defaulters in particular, they will be disconnected and fined if they do not reduce their water consumption.

The municipality is implementing a water restriction of 15%.
It says water restrictors will also be installed in households throughout the district in the next few days and expected to save over 12.48 mega litres per day.
Mayor Yusuf Bhamjee says some businesses mistakenly think they won't be affected.

"They are going to be in for a shock. If they do not comply with the request to pay the money they owe us then certainly we are going to cut their water.
"Secondly, we're trying to engage the board committee to understand the need for us to implement sanctions - there will a restriction process where we will be limiting the amount of water to that home or that area.
"Therefore, we talk abut introducing the valve system that will help us to control the supply of water. If it means imposing a fine - we will do so," he said.
Recent findings suggest the average water consumption in the district is over 42.2 mega litres per day.
