War on queues: Gigaba heads to KZN Home Affairs offices
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The Home Affairs department is finalising a plan of action to deal with the issue of long queues at offices around the country.
Minister Malusi Gigaba - who's in KZN for government's 'War on Queues' campaign - will visit branches in Pietermaritzburg and Durban.
He says one of their biggest challenges is to reduce the amount of time people spend in their offices.
Gigaba says an assessment report has identified numerous problems at Home Affairs offices.
It found that there was poor management in some offices while others had oversupply of staff or not enough workers.
The minister says not enough was being done to effectively manage queues at branches. They've also found that little or no signage was put up to direct people where to go.
Other issues that led to long queues were unstable systems, and inefficient workflow processes.
Gigaba has promised the country to change the way things are done to ensure customers receive higher quality, smarter and faster services.
