Walus stabbed in prison as parole release looms
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Chris Hani's killer Janusz Walus has been stabbed in prison.

The Department of Correctional Services says Walus was attacked by an inmate from the same housing unit at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria.
"A detailed incident report is to be provided at a later stage, but what can be stated at this point is that inmate Walus is stable and DCS healthcare officials are providing the necessary care," says spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo.

"It is alleged that Walus was stabbed by another inmate from the same housing unit. Stabbing and other forms of disturbances are offences not warranted in a correctional environment and this case will be investigated."
Walus is due to be released on parole on Wednesday.
The Constitutional Court last week set aside the Justice Minister's 2020 decision to refuse him parole and ordered that he be freed within 10 days.
