Wages for taxi drivers must be reviewed: Peters
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Transport Minister Dipou Peters says both the departments of Transport and Labour should engage and revisit terms relating to wages for minibus taxi drivers.

Peters addressed the Third Annual National Road Safety Summit currently underway in Durban.
Making reference to the proposed R3500 national minimum wage, she says there needs to be a discussion around ensuring drivers do not put passengers at risk to make more money.

"Our drivers have targets to meet in terms of income per day. Sometimes in the process of meeting the target, they also want to make their own money.
"We need to engage with the Department of Labour to make sure that we don't create a situation where the drivers of our people on the roads become beggars to the extent that they risk the lives of people by driving recklessly so that they can make additional income," she said.
The summit wraps up today.
