Vryheid farm murders: Six men released due to lack of evidence
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Police say their search for the killers of two farmers in the Swart uMfolozi area in Vryheid continues.
Six men who were taken in for questioning earlier this week have been released.
On Tuesday night, a group of about 12 armed men entered a farm property and opened fire on members of a family during what is believed to have been a robbery.
Two farmers were killed while a third man is still recovering from the shooting.
The gang took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing.
The police's Thulani Zwane says the six men taken in for questioning could not be linked to the murders.
"The is no evidence against them for now, but the case is still under investigation. During the incident, it is alleged that the farmers around the area started to mobilise and managed to catch these people."
"They were detained in police cells and they were questioned. They were released today because there is no evidence against them," he said.
