Voting on Phala Phala report must be held via secret ballot, National Assembly hears
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The debate on the Phala Phala report began with some MPs calling for a vote on the matter to be via secret ballot.

Some members spoke out against a decision by National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to refuse a request by the ATM party for voting to take place anonymously.
The EFF claims some MPs have been threatened against voting in favour of the report.

Mapisa-Nqakula confirmed to the house that she received information about the alleged death threats.
"Honourable members, I am informed by Mr Xhaso that this morning there was a case which was reported to the police. I have made a determination on the basis of your own submissions.
"I am now ruling on this matter and that ruling is that I have allowed you adequate time to raise points of order and I will not allow for a continuation of that now. I now rule that we proceed with the debate."
