VIP protection officers suspended for N1 assault

National police say all
of the VIP protection officers who were caught on camera assaulting
motorists on the N1 have been suspended.

A video of the officials from the protection unit, assaulting three men in Johannesburg, went viral last week.
The unit is assigned to Deputy President Paul Mashatile.
"All police officers that were involved have been suspended in terms of the SAPS disciplinary regulations. The SAPS wishes not to discuss the matter further in the public domain," national police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said.

Police watchdog IPID has since launched an investigation into the matter.
They've charged the group with assault, pointing of a firearm and damage to property.
