Violent protests closes four DUT campuses
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The Durban University of Technology has temporarily closed four of its campuses after the institution was rocked by violent protests again.
Management says its Steve Biko, ML Sultan, Ritson and City campuses have been shut until further notice.
The DUT's said in a statement that the protestors damaged property - leaving staff traumatised.
Management says it alerted police after receiving information about the planned demonstration and asked for assistance.
But the institution says law enforcement was not able to prevent what it calls a well-orchestrated attack.
All students and staff have been asked to remain at home.
The academic programme will continue online.
The university says it will continue to monitor the situation and if the violence flares up again it will evacuate students from the campuses' residences.
